Welcome to Miami. The Miami area, known for its amazing nightlife and exciting culture. This area thrives all year round with magnificent weather and fantastic festivals. Whether you are looking for a quiet place to relax and vacation by the many beaches or just want to explore the multi-cultural areas surrounding Miami, you are in for real delight. The most popular areas visited in the Miami area are: Downtown Miami and Miami Beach.
Downtown Miami is the real heart and soul of Miami. It is technically located on the eastern side of the city and has become home to many international banking institutions in America. It is also the headquarters of many large commercial corporations such as: Burger King, Bacardi, and basically all major cruise ship lines. Downtown Miami has become Florida's central business district, as well as, a major influence in international finances.
There is no doubt you will want to come and see for yourself the beautiful skyline and amazing skyscrapers that line the graceful streets of downtown. That being said it is no wonder then that the downtown are of Miami are some of the busiest hubs for traveling in the world. It contains the Miami International Airport, as well as, the famous Port of Miami, which handle over 12 million travelers a year.
Once in the Miami area, all are interested in visiting the many beaches. The first stop is almost always Miami Beach. Miami Beach is often referred to as being part of the city of Miami itself. However, it is actually its own city within Dade County. It is located on the barrier island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. With a population of just under 100,000 people, over 50% of which are foreign borne.
This naturally brings a wonderful blend of cultures to the area surrounding. This blend is clearly seen by one of the more popular attractions to the area here, the Art Deco District. This area contains some amazing architectural buildings representing the Mediterranean, Modern, and Art Deco era. The city is often referred to as south beach and north beach.
The more common of the two seems to be south beach or simply "The Beach". It is simply a neighborhood in the city of Miami Beach. This neighborhood begins around 1st street and continues to around 25th street. What began as simply 165 acres of coconut farming, has today turned into one of the wealthiest commercial areas on the beach.
During the daytime or nighttime, there is no shortage of restaurants, boutiques, as well as nightclubs to participate in. Individuals from around the globe flock here to be a part of the lively activities. Many of the people enjoy this area so much that they have made south beach their home away from home.
However, north beach is the tranquil sister of the area. It starts around 63rd street and continues north to the edge of the city near 87th Terrace. This area is not nearly as popular, yet north beach is a delightful place for sand and sun. It often hosts those with less of a desire for flare and nightlife. When visiting Miami, you absolutely have to travel on Ocean Drive and enjoy the majestic ocean views.
